Abstract
Blind spot is an area around a vehicle that cannot be seen directly by the driver, either through direct vision or rear-view mirrors, which may increase the risk of accidents, especially in large vehicles such as buses. This study aims to design and develop a blind spot detection device for buses using a Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) system with real-time video display as an effort to improve driving safety. The system is designed using an ESP32 as the main controller, HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors to detect object distance, a servo motor to assist the detection angle movement, an ESP32-CAM as a visual monitoring device, and a TFT display to show real-time video. Inter-vehicle communication is implemented using the ESP-NOW protocol, allowing buses and surrounding vehicles to exchange information quickly without requiring a Wi-Fi router. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), consisting of system design, hardware assembly, programming, and testing stages. The results show that the device is able to detect objects in the right, left, front, and rear blind spot areas of the bus, display surrounding conditions in real time, and provide warnings through indicators and sound alarms when an object is detected at an unsafe distance. Therefore, this system can provide additional information to the driver regarding the presence of vehicles around the bus, thereby increasing driver awareness and improving driving safety.
