Abstract
Optimal lighting on motor vehicles was an important aspect in supporting driving safety, especially at night. One common issue that often occurred was the deviation in the direction and intensity of high beam headlights, which could cause visibility disturbances or glare risks to other drivers. This research aimed to implement the linear regression method on a Viskor brand headlight tester to detect deviations and the intensity of vehicle high beams, and to evaluate the results against safety standards in accordance with Government Regulation Number 55 of 2012. The method used was experimental quantitative research with testing conducted on a Daihatsu Gran Max type S403 vehicle at the UPTD PKB Sragen Regency. Data were obtained through measurements of light intensity and deviation at various distances. These data were then analyzed using linear regression to model the relationship between distance, intensity, and deviation of the high beam headlights. The research results indicated that the linear regression model exhibited a good level of precision, with a coefficient of determination (R²) value exceeding 85% for all variables. However, the intensity prediction at a distance of 100 meters using linear regression became negative, necessitating the use of the inverse square law approach, which yielded correct intensity values based on physical laws. Conversely, the prediction of directional deviation showed very large values that did not comply with technical tolerance limits. These results underscored the importance of further evaluating vehicle lighting systems and highlighted the limitations of linear regression models for extreme extrapolation. This research contributed to the improvement of headlight testing precision and provided a foundation for the development of more advanced testing systems that met the safety needs of road transportation. Keywords: Headlight tester, linear regression, headlight deviation, light intensity, motor vehicle safety.
